EMT Field Training Information



Delaware Emergency Medical Technicians interested in becoming field training officers should be seasoned EMTs who set examples and are leaders within their agency. They should be empathetic, knowledgeable, easily approachable, coaching, and attentive when dealing with an EMT student or EMT intern. They should have a desire to better the EMS system as a whole and have a propensity for teaching new individuals the trade. Interested EMTs may apply to the Delaware State Fire Commission after meeting the following requirements:

  • Be an EMT for minimum of 5 years.
  • Have a letter of recommendation from their fire chief or EMS official.
  • Not have any disciplinary records on file as it relates to your EMT with the state fire commission.
  • Complete the required training through the Delaware State Fire School
  • Complete and submit the FTO application to the Delaware State Fire Commission.
